Smart Winner Bred and Sold by Widden
Helford River, the most expensive filly from the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling Sale was tipped to break her maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday, but Chris Waller and Star Thoroughbreds spoiled the party with a progressive Northern Meteor filly called Aurora Glow.
Prominent in the steward’s report at her first two runs at the provincials, Aurora Glow finally put it altogether with the addition of blinkers.
She stormed out of the pack for Tye Angland to run down Helford River and win the 1200 metre maiden by a length.
“We had a good opinion of her before she raced and she’s just continued to improve,” said stable representative Liam Prior.
“She didn’t have the easiest of runs and charged home, so she has a bright future.”
A $140,000 Magic Millions purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Widden Stud draft, Aurora Glow was bred by Widden in partnership and is the third winner from stakes-winner Social Glow.
Ill-fated Northern Meteor will have his final crop of two year-olds racing next season and Widden Stud look forward to greeting the first foals of his dual Group I winning son Zoustar this spring .
